Artie Wayland Bagwell, 90, of Gainesville, Texas passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Wayland was born May 17,1935 in Antlers, Oklahoma to James Oaties and Lona Mildred (Latham) Bagwell. One of nine children that was born into the family. On June 5, 1955 Wayland married Virgie Mae Lyle and they had 60 years together prior to her passing in 2015. He worked for many years for the Planning Mill in Gainesville before its closing and then went to work for the City of Gainesville, working for Frank Buck Zoo for many years before retiring. Wayland grew up in a big loving family and as that family grew over the years, he watched with pride in each one of them, cherishing the time spent with his brothers and sisters, his children and grandchildren and all his nieces and nephews. He loved his family tremendously. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Germany and husband, Randy of Gainesville; grandson, Bradley Germany and wife, Shelbie; grandson, Artie Weir, grandson, Tony Weir, Jr. and granddaughter, Karamee Kiser and husband, Konah; seventeen, great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wayland was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virgie Bagwell, parents, JO and Mildred Bagwell, daughter, Paula Walden, grandson, Cody Germany, as well as all his siblings. Graveside services honoring Wayland will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Woodbine. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Meador Funeral Home, Gainesville, Texas.
