Janet Lea Galisky
May 3, 1936 - February 6, 2026
Janet was called home to heaven on February 6, 2026 in Gainesville, Texas. She was 89 years old.
Janet was born May 3, 1936 in Walker Township, Illinois to Harold and Hulda Beckett. Janet graduated from Bowen High School. Her graduating class was very small and she kept in touch with her classmates for many years. Janet’s talents included playing the clarinet and organ. She moved to California after her graduation where she lived most of her life.
Janet married Willard Sweat in 1954. They had three daughters and were later divorced. Janet met and fell in love with Anthony “Tony” Galisky in 1977. This would become a beautiful “second chance” marital union in 1981. Janet and Tony were world travelers enjoying many excursions with family and friends. They frequently hosted parties and celebrations in their lovely desert home in Joshua Tree, California. Janet and Tony moved to Lake Kiowa in 2015.
Janet enjoyed simple pleasures like sunshine, flowers, watching birds (especially cardinals) and squirrels play in the backyard, and cookies of almost any kind. She was devoted to her family and treasured every moment together. Her two great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She was perpetually joyful and rarely had a bad day. Janet was full of love and kindness toward everyone. She was an amazing Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mom, Gram, and MeMaw. Her love lives on in all of our hearts.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her first and second husbands; her sisters Dorothy Martin and Ann Fletcher; and her beloved son-in-law Mike Stokx.
Janet is survived by her daughters Paula Sweat, Patty Stokx, and Peggy Knodel; son-in-law Doug Knodel; granddaughter Jennifer Niblett and her husband Matt Niblett; granddaughter Jeannie Stokx; great-grandchildren Mechelle and Brian Niblett; nieces Beverly Morrical, Marcia Jacob, and Susan Fletcher-Thomas; nephew David Wertz and caregiver Mike Franklin whom she loved like a son.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 27, 2026-5:00pm-7:00pm, Meador Funeral Home Chapel, 1204 E. California Street, Gainesville, Texas. Service will be Saturday, February 28, 2026 – 12:00pm at Meador Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at New Hope Cemetery, Mountain Springs, Texas.
Angel Mom
You were sent to give your love
We believe from up above
You were given wings that we can’t see
To keep us warm and protect us three
You are special here upon the Earth
For in chaos, you bring calm
And God must think we’re special too
For He gave us an Angel Mom
(Taken from “Angel Mom” poem by daughter Paula Sweat 12-25-94
“And now these three remain; faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
~ I Corinthians 13:13

Love you Jan. I truly believe we will see each other again someday. I learned so much from you over our 8 year friendship, and will forever be grateful as to how kind you were to me & my own family. I will miss most our daily morning conversations, solving the worlds problems, while drinking coffee, feeding the birds, cooking your favorite grits & eggs while we planned our days and always “got stuff done” Ha!
Love,
Mike

Jan joined our family when she married my Uncle Tony. She was an amazing addition to our “clan”. She shared her grace and kindness always and offered her hospitality to our large group of relatives and tag-a-longs. I loved laughing with her and watching my Mom and Jan with their heads together sharing stories and memories of shared vacations, cruises, and the four of them taking trips in Dad’s motorhome. They laughed together and worked together in the kitchen often to ensure that the rest of us could enjoy the ultimate Galisky Party.
Although time has passed since those beautiful days, I think Jan’s joyful spirit has influenced all of us. Her memory lives on through the gift she was to me. I know that you and Mom have a lot to catch up on, Jan. Let the laughter begin!
Jan was a truly remarkable woman—the rare kind of soul who was as brilliant and sharp as she was sweet and generous. I will always treasure the memories of the many family trips we took together, but it was her legendary ‘August birthday’ fiestas that truly defined her legacy. They were so much more than parties; they were the reunions that kept our family and friends connected year after year.
Though we lost touch after her move to Texas, her quick laugh and kind spirit never faded from our hearts. We were so lucky to have her for so many wonderful years. Sending all my love to her daughters and granddaughters—she was a gift to us all.”
