Elaine (Youngblood) Mitchell
December 27, 1933 ~ February 8, 2026
Elaine (Youngblood) Mitchell, age 93, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Elaine was born on December 27, 1933, to Viola and Joseph Youngblood. She graduated from Gainesville High School, where her life journey truly began. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Linden Mitchell, and together they built a devoted family, welcoming their only daughter, Kathy, whom Elaine cherished deeply.
In 1957, Elaine and Linden moved to California, a place that became home for many years. She enjoyed a successful 23-year career with Safeway before retiring. Retirement allowed Elaine to embrace what she loved most—spending summers in Oceanside, California, surrounded by sunshine, family, and friends.
Elaine’s hobbies reflected her sharp mind and steady hands. She loved all card games, especially Canasta, which she played regularly with friends in Goodyear, Arizona. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and quilting. Elaine stayed engaged with current events and held deep convictions, loving God, Family, and Country. Known affectionately as “Youngblood stubborn,” she possessed a strong will and determination that defined her character and earned both admiration and smiles from those who knew her well.
Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Linden Mitchell; her parents, Joseph and Viola Youngblood; and her siblings, Willoby, Bonnie, Marjorie, Jo, Kenneth, and Bobby.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Johns and son-in-law, Bob Johns, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews who will continue to cherish her memory.
Elaine’s legacy is one of devotion, resilience, and love—a life well lived and deeply treasured.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday March 1 at 12:30pm, Meador Funeral Home, 1204 E California St, Gainesville, TX. 76240
