Don Kent Swindle
June 25, 1936 ~ February 25, 2026
Don Kent Swindle, 89, of Collinsville, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at his home. Don was born on June 25, 1936 in Collinsville to James Melton and Marjorie Marie (Battenfield) Swindle.
Don graduated from Collinsville High School in 1954 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. While stationed at Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso he met the love of his life Shirley Ann Lowe. He and Shirley married in 1957. They were married 66 years until her death in 2023.
An entrepreneur at heart, Don started his own communications business in the early 1960s. He and Shirley grew the business, Don’s Radio in Gainesville, until they sold it in the mid-1970s and moved to Collinsville.
Don was a dirt farmer, but his real passion was restoring and flying antique airplanes and restoring and driving antique cars. Throughout their marriage, he and Shirley traveled widely in their award-winning antiques. They made lifelong friends who shared their love for adventure, craftsmanship, and preservation of history.
Don is survived by his daughter Donna Lee and husband, David, of Aubrey; his son Jim Swindle and his life partner, Inkee Kim, of San Antonio, along with many other loving family members and friends who have wonderful memories of and can tell great stories about Don.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents, Jim and Marie Swindle; his brother Charles Melton Swindle; and his sister, Jimmie Cooley.
Funeral services honoring Don will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro. Interment will follow at Collinsville Cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please support a cause you care about, or take a ride in your antique car, or go around the pattern in your plane.

Don was a great man, he loved his wife Shirley and his children. I loved that Shirley and Don loved to take trips together in one of his many airplanes! He was kind and I loved that he rode his bicycle all around town. He was one of the good ones!
Donna and Jim,
I am so sorry to hear about your dad but I’m also happy to know he’s with your Mom now. The story he told me about when he first met my parents was priceless!! I’m sure they are all sharing stories now of past times! My prayers are with you both and your families.

Donna and Dave,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Don had a spirit that all of us should have.
I was a frequent visitor to Don’s Two-Way in Gainesville for many years back in the past when he was here. I really enjoyed dropping by his shop not just to see the work he did, which was always excellent, but also to see him. So sorry to hear of his passing, you all are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. I never met him, but he sure is handsome in his picture.! it sounds like he was a wonderful man and people really enjoyed his company and I can tell that he looks like that in his picture.
I was not expecting this. He was a Hero in the Air Force.
He is noe in his beautiful Mansion that God Promised.
