Shannon Faye Cox, 83, of Cypress, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026.
Shannon was born on March 13, 1943, in Sherman, Texas, to Joe Merle Light and Mary Glenda Vaughn. She spent her early childhood in Collinsville, Texas, a town that always held a special place in her heart, before her family relocated to Port Arthur, Texas.
After graduating from high school, Shannon worked for Southwestern Bell for 15 years. During that time, she met Weston Cox, whom she later married. Together they returned to Collinsville, allowing Shannon to reconnect with the community she loved so dearly. There, she faithfully attended the Church of Christ, lovingly helped raise Weston’s children, and devoted countless hours to one of her greatest passions—reading. Rarely was she without a book in hand.
Following her divorce, Shannon moved to Amarillo, Texas, where she worked as a custodian at West Texas A&M University. Later, she followed her beloved sister, Helen Janette Light Norton, and brother-in-law, Richard Norton, to Cypress, Texas, where she helped care for her mother, Mary Glenda Vaughn Light Miller. Shannon continued her career within the Texas A&M System as a custodian at Prairie View A&M University, where she eventually retired.
Shannon was a devoted member of the Church of Christ throughout her life, including her local congregation in Cypress. Her faith was a guiding force and source of strength. In her later years, her sisters, Joanna and Janette, were pillars of support and companionship. After their passing, her niece, Jennifer, lovingly stepped into that role, caring for Shannon with the devotion of a daughter and always making sure she was well looked after. Shannon was also especially blessed by the love and support of her brothers-in-law, Richard Norton and George Reiter, whose kindness and generosity enriched her life in countless ways.
Although she lived in several places throughout Texas, Shannon’s heart never left Collinsville. She maintained close relationships with family, friends, and members of the Collinsville Church of Christ. Among her fondest memories were the many trips to Branson, Missouri, with fellow members of the Collinsville congregation. Whether near or far, Collinsville was always home in her heart.
Shannon was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Merle Light and Mary Glenda Vaughn Light Miller; her sisters, Joanna Merle Reiter and Helen Janette Light Norton; and many cherished family members and friends who welcomed her into eternal rest.
She is survived by her brother, Robert David Light; her niece, Jennifer Norton Clowers; her nephew, Travis Richard Norton; and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A graveside service will be held on June 16, 2026, at 10am at the Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville, Texas.
In lieu of condolences, flowers may be sent through Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas.
Shannon will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her love of family, her devotion to reading, and her lifelong affection for the town of Collinsville. She will also be fondly remembered for the special bond she shared with her beloved greyhound, Dallas, whose companionship brought her great joy. Her gentle presence, kind heart, and enduring friendships leave a legacy that will not be forgotten.
