Monte Elizabeth Perry

Monte Elizabeth Perry was born on December 20, 1933, to John Peyrot and Monte Roberts Peyrot in Gainesville, Texas. She was the baby girl in a family of 13 brothers and sisters, and she held a very special place in her family’s heart as Papa’s favorite. Though she was given the name Monte, she preferred to be called Elizabeth, or simply “Liz” by those who knew and loved her.

In 1950, Liz came to Era High School, where she quickly became an active and beloved part of her school and community. During her high school years, she was a member of the Girls Sport Club in Gainesville and the F.H.A. in Valley View. She was crowned Football Queen for the 1951 season on November 10, 1951, during a formal coronation. She was also the sweetheart of the local F.F.A. chapter, assistant art editor and typist for the annual, class secretary, and Senior favorite. These accomplishments were a reflection of the outgoing, talented, and competitive young woman she was becoming.

After high school, Liz moved to Abilene, Texas, where she lived with one of her sisters while attending college. She attended Hardin-Simmons University and also worked for the local police department. It was during this time, while attending Corinth Baptist Church in Abilene and singing in the choir, that she met “the man of her dreams.” She married Gaylin Everette Perry on September 2, 1956. Lin thought she was the most beautiful girl in the world, and together they began building a life filled with love, family, and countless memories.

Life could not be complete without two wonderful children. Their son, Gaylin Everette Perry Jr., was born in March of 1958, followed by their daughter, Paula Elizabeth Perry, in November of 1960. Her children became the center of her world, and her love for her family was something she carried throughout her entire life.

Sometime in 1964, the family moved to the Pasadena area. As her children began attending school, Liz began serving in the schools in many different areas. She was a woman who could do so many things and do them well. She attended First Baptist Pasadena for more than 50 years, where her faith became an important and lasting part of her life.

Liz was a highly skilled seamstress and an exceptional cook. She loved sports and was known to be a competitor, always ready to give something her very best. She lived a full and interesting life, taking on many different jobs and opportunities along the way. She often loved telling stories about her time working at the Dr. Pepper Factory, NASA, and as the Principal’s Secretary.

Liz was truly a woman of many talents, abilities, and interests. She was hardworking, determined, talented, competitive, faithful, and deeply devoted to her family. She made an impression on the people around her and lived a life filled with purpose, love, and countless stories to tell.

At 92 years old, Liz fought so hard and held on with incredible strength. She was deeply loved and adored by her family and all those fortunate enough to know her. Her life was long, full, and meaningful, and the love she gave will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of those she leaves behind.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Gaylin Perry Sr., her father, John Peyrot, and mother, Monte Roberts Peyrot, and her siblings Hilda Wilson, George Peyrot, Sam Peyrot, Anne Wharton, BT Peyrot, Lily Price, John Henry Peyrot, John David Peyrot, HC Peyrot, and Andrew Peyrot. She is survived by her brother James Peyrot Sr., and her sister Ellen West of Gainesville, Tx, her son, Gaylin Perry Jr., and her daughter, Paula Gardner, as well as her grandchildren (in order) Jared Perry, Lance Perry, Gavin Gardner, Grant Perry, and Gayla Morgan, and her great-grandchildren Owen Perry, Gabriel Perry, Lyla Perry, Emma Perry, Anna Perry, Asher Gardner, Sutton Gardner, Emryn Morgan, and Boone Morgan.

Pall Bearers: Gaylin Perry Jr., Reese Gardner, Jared Perry, Lance Perry, Gavin Gardner, and Grant Perry.

Honorary Pall Bearers: James Peyrot Sr., Asher Gardner, Boone Morgan, Owen Perry, and Gabriel Perry.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 10:00am, Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 1204 E. California Street, Gainesville, Texas.  Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville.  A time of visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 6:00pm-8:00pm also at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
