Gene Charles Marter

Gene Charles Marter, 87, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026. He was born on June 4, 1939, to Joseph Marter and Mellinie Miller Marter, both of whom preceded him in death.

Gene met the love of his life, Arlene, and the two were married on May 13, 1961, in Franklin Park, Illinois. Together, they shared more than 65 years of marriage and built a loving family filled with treasured memories.

Gene was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene; his sons, Scott and wife Jacqueline, Michael and wife Donna, Joel and wife Antoinette, and Mark and wife Jennifer; brother, Joseph Marter Jr., sister, Marilyn Neilson and his many grandchildren, Danielle, Nickellina, Matthew, Stephanie, Melanie, Aaron, Austin, Michelle, Gabrielle, Chase, Kaden, Eric, Ashley, Austin, Liliana, and Noah. He was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Sadie, who brought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his sister and twin, June Frantz, and his sister, Nancy Carter.

Gene dedicated his life to a career in engineering and the concrete and cement industry. A Registered Professional Engineer, he was licensed in Illinois in 1969 and in Texas in 1981. His professional career included positions with the Illinois Department of Transportation, DuPage County Highway Department, Huron Cement, Material Service Corporation, General Portland Cement, Trinity Fly Ash, Lafarge Corporation, and the American Concrete Paving Association. In 1994, he began working with Cementitious Materials Consultant, Inc., where he continued his work as a consultant through 2026.

Throughout his career, Gene was respected for his knowledge, dedication, and commitment to his profession. He was involved with numerous professional organizations, including the American Concrete Institute, Northeast Texas Chapter ACI, Houston Chapter ACI, North Central Texas Council of Governments, National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, Precast Concrete Institute, and ASTM International.

While Gene accomplished much professionally, those who knew him best will remember him most for the love he had for his family and the life he shared with Arlene. His legacy will live on through the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild who were so fortunate to call him husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in his honor to the pet rescue charity of your choice.

Graveside services honoring Gene will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Oakwood Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Rick Carney. No formal visitation is scheduled at this time.
